Gameplay

The game is considered a spin-off to the original game in the series, Ragnarok Online. However, unlike Ragnarok Online, which is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Ragnarok Tactics is a tactical role-playing game, playing more similarly to Final Fantasy Tactics. However, elements of the Ragnarok Online universe are still present, such as similar settings or the fact that crouching/sitting can restore character's health.
The game is played on a grid, where the player must move characters strategically to cause damage to the opposing party, with the end goal usually to defeat the opposing side.

Customization is strongly emphasized in the game; with characters' genders, statistics, skills, equipment all being customizeable. Furthermore, the player can chose to join three different factions, and make different choices to take different paths throughout the game, leading to five different endings. The game does not require players to replay the game five times to see each ending, but rather, the player can opt to go back to crucial points in the game and chose a different path. Optional sidequests, largely unconnected to the main story characters, are also available to play at various points in the game.

Plot
The game's story begins with two nations, Branshaldo Empire and the Aura Republic, at war with each other over possession of an area of land called the Grantria Peninsula. The nations call a truce, but relations remain poor, with the fear of war erupting again constantly looming. The player gets to choose which party they side with, determining which side of the story is told, and which of the five endings to the war is shown.

Plot

There are a total of nine playable characters in Persona.

Each of the playable characters in Persona is a student who attends the fictional St. Hermelin high school, and is granted through a ritual-like game the ability to summon Personas, manifestations of one's psyche which take on the form of various monsters, heroes and gods of mythology. The main character is a nameless boy and the silent protagonist of the game, however he is named Naoya Toudou (nicknamed Nao) in the manga. Other party members include Hidehiko Uesugi (nicknamed Brown), a narcissist who convinces the others characters to play "Persona" in the first place; Kei Nanjō (nicknamed Nanjō), pompous rich boy who is heir to the Nanjō Group; Masao Inaba (nicknamed Mark), class clown and aspiring artist; Yuka Ayase (nicknamed Ayase), popular girl and a heartbreaker with many admirers; Eriko Kirishima (nicknamed Elly), daring adventurer and expert fencer; Yukino Mayuzumi, a reformed gang member who mentors her fellow students.[6] Maki Sonomura, a sick girl who mysteriously regains her health around the same time that demons invade the town; and Reiji Kido, enigmatic fighter with a prominent scar on his forehead.

Unique out of all the Persona games, it is not possible to recruit all of the main characters in one play-through; recruiting some characters into your party (one in SEBEC and two in the SQQ) will fill it up, rendering the others inaccessible.

Also, some characters are mandatory members for specific routes in the game. For example, Maki, Kei, and Masao are mandatory members for the SEBEC route, while Yukino and Ayase are mandatory members for the Snow Queen Quest route. Barring Yukino (who joins the party only briefly in the SEBEC), Reiji, Maki, and Masao (who are only available in the SEBEC route), all other characters can be recruited for both routes.

Synopsis

The story takes place at Hope's Peak Academy, an illustrious private school that only accepts "super" students: the best of the best of the best. The criteria extends to any niche, so in addition to super-geniuses and super-athletes, they take super-idols, gang leaders, and geeks. Makoto Naegi, the protagonist, is still baffled as to how he got in, as his only outstanding trait seems to be his super "good" luck - and that's only because he was randomly chosen to be accepted by the school. In fact, he hasn't even started his first day of school when he suddenly loses consciousness and wakes up in a creepy alternate version of the academy.

It's soon revealed that Naegi and fourteen other new students have all been abducted by a sadistic teddy bear named Monobear, who refuses to let them leave. The only way out of the locked-down dark school is to graduate...by killing another student. Once a murder is committed, Monobear holds a trial so that the class can try to figure out which one of them is the culprit, culminating in a vote. If they make the right choice, the murderer will be messily executed. Make the wrong choice, and not only does the murderer escape, but the rest of them will take the punishment in their place...
